Fake Netflix Android App Steals User’s Log-in Information
Symantec recently discovered fake Android app circulating on the Internet, especially in online forums. The application send users a false information then try to access a remote server and displays a message saying that there is an incompatibility problem with the hardware and then try to uninstall it self.
With the stolen registration information, application developers could hijack the accounts and have access to certain information. However, it will not be able to easily reach the credit card data because the site only shows the last four digits of card number. Therefore, it is unclear how they planned to make money off the swindle. It could be a test for a fake mobile banking application, which could provide access to more sensitive information.
Usually malicious applications are versions of legitimate applications that have been modified to include malware and then packaged and distributed. But in this case, the application is a completely different program.
People should be careful where they get their apps and download them from trusted sources only.
